Well Travelled Reveal #1~

For the month of February at Down a Dirt Road Scrapbooking the kit features the Well Travelled Collection from Carta Bella.
I have worked with some of this collection before, and when I got it in the mail, I was so happy to see it again. I think it is such a stunning and classic looking collection. It compliments such a variety of photos, not JUST travel photos.

I chose to use one of my brother's photos from his trip to Paris, another page for his album that I am gifting him.

The second layout features a photo of my Mom and her older brother, I love this photo.
This layout shows that this is not JUST a travel collection.

Thank you so much for stopping by. Please check out Down a Dirt Road Scrapbooking too. We have challenges, tutorials, tips and tricks on the forum and would love to see you there!

Dr. Seuss Craft Lightning~

Today I am so happy to be taking part in another fun filled Craft Lightning Blog Hop.
Thank you so much The Country Chic Cottage and 30 Minute Crafts for including me once again.

Our theme this month is very popular today, and back when I was a child...Dr. Seuss. I will admit, I took some time to think about this one. I didn't know what to create right away.
Here is what I came up with, a portable chalkboard created from a VERY well used and enjoyed
Dr Seuss book.

My craft took a tad bit longer than 15 minutes, but that was due to the condition of the book that I started with. This would be a great craft to create if you received 2 of the same book as gifts, or if you just happen to get a great deal on a favourite Dr Seuss book.

Here is a photo of the book that I started with. It was mine as a child, and it came to our family from another, who had also loved the book into the condition that you see now.

I used Deco Art's Chalkboard paint to cover a piece of chipboard that I had cut to size, to fit inside the book. The Tylenol bottle with it's easy to open top, was a perfect fit for the chalk.

To start the repair on my book, I covered all the edges with washi tape, then a coat of Deco Art's DecoPage adhesive. Then covered all the surfaces with coordinating patterned paper. If you start with a new book, this would not be needed. I used the cover page of the book for my front cover.

Using hot glue, I added my wide ribbon strap for easy transport.
I used velcro dots to keep the chalk bottle in place.

An inside view of the Portable Chalkboard Book.

February Mood Board~

I thought I would try a little something new. Mood Board challenges are all the rage online these days. Life.Paper.Scrapbook has a monthly Mood Board challenge, so I thought I would play along.

Here is February's Mood Board. The beautiful warm tones with that pop of glitz with the gold, is just such a stunning mix of colour.

This is the layout that I created based on the Mood Board. I knew right away what photos I would use. Zoe's prom dress had gold sequins at the top, and her pop of colour with pink shoes just worked out perfectly for this Mood Board.

I used an older My Mind's Eye collection, Indie Chic. Then for the pop of gold, I used these great little doilies I picked up a long time ago.

Thanks for stopping by, and be sure to check out the challenge and all the other crafty inspiration at Life.Paper.Scrapbook.

The Poochie Is In~

This is the layout that I created at home, when my original plans were to scrapbook with friends. But Mother Nature had other plans for us all. I ended up staying in Sydney for the weekend, and the crop with friends also ended up being cancelled.

So I sat down and wanted to create something fun.
This is my Charlie Brown inspired layout featuring our crazy pooch Kya.

I used the Maggie Holmes Signature Collection that I picked up at a crop hosted by My Stamping Studio in Windsor, NS. This is only the second collection that I have used from Crate Paper, and I must say, I liked it.
I used Yellow Chevron Washi Tape from We R Memory Keepers to also pick up on the Charlie Brown theme.

Having fun with my Charlie Brown theme, instead of "the Doctor is in", it's "the Poochie is in".

The flowers are all by Prima. The buttons are from Buttons Galore & More.

Sketchabilities Debut: Sketch #109~

Well here we go, I am so very excited to be a part of such a talented Design Team that is followed by so many faithful fans! So welcome to my first reveal with Sketchabilities.
Here is the layout that I created based on Sketch #109.

Karan's sketches are so very detailed and I have always loved to see everyone's interpretation of them from reveal to reveal.

For this layout I used patterned paper and embellishments from the Well Travelled Collection by Carta Bella.
You can find this collection online at Down a Dirt Road Scrapbooking, or locally at The Cutting Garden.

Thank you so much for stopping by and checking out my first reveal for Sketchabilities. I hope you take the challenge and create something as well.

14 Days of Love: Day 14 Foxy Valentine~

Last but not least in my 14 Days of Love series, is a Valentine for MY Valentine.
I take some time to come up with something for him, and I like them to have some meaning behind them....but they are always a little fun as well.

We rather enjoyed the "What Does the Fox Say?" viral video craze, often blurting it out randomly in our travels. Plus, what is cuter than a little Valentine fox?
As some of you out there may already know, I do not own a die cut system of any sort, so my little fox was done old school. I drew and cut out the pieces myself.

The patterned papers are a combination of mostly My Mind's Eye's current Valentine collection, and the red fox pattern is a Christmas pattern from Bo Bunny.

You can find most of these papercraft goodies at The Cutting Garden.

The letter stickers are a mix of Echo Park, Carta Bella, Tim Holtz and Fancy Pants.

And, here is what this fox said...

Thank you for stopping by today and perhaps some of the other 14 Days of Love. I hope that each and every one of you feel the love today and everyday.

14 Days of Love: Day 13 Apple Cinnamon Cake~

Today I am sharing a little something that I love.
I am not a huge fan of normal cake and icing, so for my birthday I ask for this Apple Cinnamon Cake with warm Caramel Sauce to be made. My mother found the recipe YEARS ago, and I think it came from the newspaper. I helped Sean make it this year.

It's a fairly large cake, I usually bake it in a 9x13 pyrex dish.

Recipe:

Combine the following:
1 1/2 Cup Sugar
1/2 Cup Golden Crisco
2 Eggs

In a separate bowl combine the following:
2 Cups Flour
1 tsp Baking Soda
1 tsp Salt

Combine the 2 separate bowls.
Mix 1 Cup of Milk with 1 tbsp vinegar and add to your mixture.

Add 2 cups of chopped Apple

Pour into your 9x13 baking dish

Topping:
1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
1 tsp Cinnamon
1/4 Cup Cold Butter

Combine the topping ingredients and sprinkle over the top of your cake batter in the baking dish.
Bake at 350 for about 40 minutes

Caramel Sauce
(I often double it, as I like lots...as well as it's nice on ice cream)

1 Cup Sugar
3/4 Cup Corn Syrup
1/3 Cup Butter
1 1/3 Cup Coffee Cream
1 1/2 tsp Vanilla

In a saucepan, bring the sugar, syrup and butter to a boil. Stir at a boil for 3 minutes. Stir in the cream and bring it back to a boil. Remove from heat and add the vanilla.
Keep left over sauce in the fridge.

Thank you for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy this recipe. It is by far, my favorite cake.

14 Days of Love: Day 12 Sweetheart Candy Bouquet~

Something that my Sweetheart likes is Sweets!
So this Valentine's Day, I made him a Sweetheart Candy Bouquet with all of his favourite sweets.

I started with decorating my mason jar. I wanted a heart, painted with DecoArt's Chalkboard Paint for Glass. So, to do this I first created a mask/template. I used washi tape on was paper. Then simply punched it with my large Stampin' Up Heart punch.

Then you are able to easily pull the washi tape up from the wax paper and adhere it to the mason jar to use as a mask.

Another little tip is how I was able to keep all my heavy candy picks in place. Well that's pretty easy actually. A toilet paper roll cut down a little bit, filled with modelling clay.

I could then pop that into the jar and then fill the rest of the jar with candy.

A close-up of the front of my jar shows how well the chalkboard heart turned out. Then I used Gold and Pink Liquid Pearls to accent it.

I also added May Arts ribbon to the top of the jar, and pink buttons from Buttons Galore & More of course.

You can customize your bouquet with almost anything that your sweetheart may desire!

Thank you so much for stopping by. Two more days to get crafty for your sweetheart!

14 Days of Love: Day 11 Wine Tag & Charm~

On the 11th day of the 14 Days of Love (also this Scrappy Chick's birthday), I chose something to include in your table decor. Something to dress up a special meal, with that special someone.

This could also be a great hostess gift for a Valentine's Day dinner party.

I chose patterned papers from a 6x6 pad of My Mind's Eye papers.
Pick it up at The Cutting Garden.

This very simple charm is just a vintage button tied to the wine glass using some pretty red ribbon. Easy, but so very pretty.

When you go to make your wine tag, a simple tip would be to quickly measure your bottle. The size of the tag should be in proportion to the size of the wine bottle. Then I measured the width of the neck of the bottle. Mine was 1.25", so I used a circle punch of the same size for the hole at the top of the tag.

Thank you so very much for stopping by. Take time today to enjoy the simplest and most important things in life this Valentine's Day.

14 Days of Love: Day 10 Valentine Hanging Ornament~

On the 10th Day of Love, I am sharing a little something I created that I was inspired to create, by something I saw on Pinterest. This Christmas I pinned an ornament that was created from a wooden thread spool, and since then I have been wanting to create one.

I created this one with an obvious Valentine colour theme, but this would be just so pretty in just about any colour scheme. So stay tuned, as I will probably create others in the near future.

Here is the spool that I started with. It came from the sewing box of my grandmother, who at one time worked for Singer. I have been finding all sorts of pretty goodies that I can use for crafting.

I used My Mind's Eye patterned paper and embellishments from this year's Valentine collection to decorate this spool. You can find it at The Cutting Garden. The red gingham ribbon also came from my grandmother's sewing box.

The sweet and simple button is from Buttons Galore & More.
I used Deco Art's Metallic Red and White paint to cover my wooden spool.
