Seaside Layout~

I thought I would give you a closer look at a recent class that I taught here in Truro.
Living on the east coast of Canada, most of us have no shortage of seaside images to craft with. One of my favourite things is walking on the beach at sunset, just so beautiful!

This layout was created focusing on one of my beach sunset photos.

I bought the crinkled paper, but I did heavily ink the edges and also have it a good coat of Gold Shimmer Mist from Tsukineko/ Imagine Crafts.

I took a strip of cheesecloth, and roughed it up a little. Then using 3 different shades of ink, I added colour to almost every little bit of it. If you don't mind getting a little dirty, I actually rolled the cloth up into a ball in my hands while the ink was still wet to mix the colours even further.

The patterned papers came from a pad of Seaside patterned papers from K&Company.

The DiPenta Project: Part 2~

Today I am sharing my second instalment of the DiPenta Project.
This is a heritage album that I have been creating for a family that was sent my way. This family has an incredible collection of photos and memorabilia that we should all be envious of. Not to mention the fact that it is very well organized, which makes my job of creating, far easier.

If you missed The DiPenta Project: Part 1, click HERE to check it out.

Here are 3 more projects created for their family album.

This first layout features a photo of Theresa Wheaton. It is created using the On This Day collection from Kaisercraft.

This ultra feminine photo deserves all of the flowers, doilies and everything pretty.
Again, as always using photo corners helping with the vintage feel, and protecting the photos.
All of the photos that I am using are copies. I recommend always using copies in your heritage albums, that way you can store your originals away someplace dry and safe in case more copies ever need to be made.

This second layout of Mary features the Bo Bunny collection, Serenade.
A brighter, and slightly different vintage collection that I thought suited this photo well.

Last but not least, a great photo of Rocco.
I chose to use a die cut background from Kaisercraft and leftover patterned paper from the previous layout from Bo Bunny's, Serenade collection.

The stickers for "Rocco" are from Thickers....love them!

The striped black ribbon is from May Arts Ribbon of course, and I love it on this layout. It's simply knotted on one side.

Tip of the Day:
When you work on a heritage album, if you're like me, you have come across all sorts of albums, frames and boxes that your family's photos have been stored in.
There is one style of album that is notoriously problematic, the 'magnetic paged album'. There is a photo of one of those pages below.

These pages have been popular for many years, and are still available today. The albums sold today have come leaps and bounds from the ones sold in the 60's and 70's.
So, here is what can happen to those older albums. Either the adhesive will dry out completely and the photos will fall right off the pages.
OR, the scarier of the two...the photos now seem to be cemented to the pages. My Tip of the Day pertains to the second scenario. If you have photos that seem eternally cemented to the page, there is still hope. Grab that waxed dental floss that you have, but NEVER use for actual flossing. Shimmy that floss under a corner of the photo, and slowly shimmy your way down the photo until it has been released from the page. I have also heard off adding a little bit of heat, say with a hair dryer....not too much! This sometimes will just warm up the adhesive, making it easier to shimmy your floss underneath.

Thank you so much for stopping my to see this second instalment of The DiPenta Project. Stay tuned for many more, during this journey.

Walnut Grove~

Today I am sharing two layouts that I created recently while cropping with friends.
Both of the layouts are created using the Walnut Grove collection from Pebbles Inc. I love it's bright primary colours and fun patterns.

I love all of this collections coordinating tags and embellishments.

The second layout features one of my favourite photos from our recent trip to Newfoundland.
Just a great memory.

Again, great little embellishments.

Thanks for stopping by to see my Walnut Grove creations!

My Creative Scrapbook: May Sketch Reveal~

Who doesn't love a great sketch to give you a bit of a creative jump start!

This is the Main Kit that I designed with this month.
It features the Confetti collection from Crate Paper. I love the slightly earthy tones and all of those hints of gold. Although the collection definitely has a birthday theme, none of the layouts that I created were birthday related. Still so versatile.

Here is the layout that I created based on May's Sketch.

This is the sketch that inspired us.
To check out what some of the other designers created using the same sketch click HERE.

I created my title using die cuts, and letter stickers included in the Main Kit.

There were a ton of vellum and acrylic embellishments....so very pretty!

DIY Flowers with May Arts Ribbon~

Today May Arts Ribbon and the Ribbonistas are launching our latest challenge. So to start it all off, we have a little inspiration for you.
SO, here are my DIY Flowers made with May Arts Ribbon.

I thought I would work with 2 of our ribbons that perhaps you may not have thought of to work with.
I started with the 1.5" Gold Sequins Heart. I cut the hearts apart, and used a total of 12 for my flower.
I used a 1.75" cardstock circle as a base.

A little hint...I used baby powder to de-stick the backs of the hearts after creating the flower, so that it wouldn't stick to everything.
The finishing touch was the large white button with the White and Gold Bakers Twine bow.

My second flower was created using the 1.5" Gold Star Banner ribbon. Again I cut the stars apart, and used 11 of them in total.

Again as a finishing touch, I added a large white button and the Gold and White Bakers Twine.

Thanks so much for stopping by to check out my DIY Flower creations using May Arts Ribbon.

A Charmed Life~

Can I just say how much I love the colours of this collection from Simple Stories??
It's the green, just so everyone knows....that is my favourite colour!

This is the A Charmed Life Collection from Simple Stories.
So, today I am doing a quick share of a couple of pretty little layouts that I created using that collection.

The layout features a photo of the girls by the water behind the Museum of Civilization in Hull, Quebec. My title however is Ottawa, because the view in the photo is Ottawa. Glad we got that cleared up!

My second layout features 2 of my favourite people!
So sweet!

My Creative Scrapbook: May Reveal Day 2~

It's that time again!
What is My Creative Scrapbook you may ask? My Creative Scrapbook is a kit club that caters to lots of different styles! Each and every month MCS compiles 4 kits for you to choose from. The Main Kit, Creative Kit, Mini Album Kit and the Limited Edition Kit.
To get additional information just click HERE.
For any of my Canadian peeps that might be wondering, shipping is only about $12.

So here we go...here are 3 of the 4 projects that I created using the May Main Kit. My fourth project will be revealed mid month along with the May Sketch Challenge with My Creative Scrapbook.

The May Main Kit is compiled of patterned papers and embellishments from Maggie Holmes Confetti collection by Crate Paper. I adore the collections sweet colours and pops of glittered gold.
The vellum and acetate embellishments are just gorgeous.

My second layout features my favourite shape....circles!
A great way to use up smaller scraps of patterned papers or if you have a collection that may have a lot of bold patterns.

See those tiny little gold dots? I used the dots from some of the question marks, and exclamation points from the letter stickers included in the Main Kit. There are always way more of them than you would actually need. They make great little golden accents.
